A Retro Brawl with a Punch - Superfighters Review
Jumping into the pixel tightened chaos of Superfighters was like opening an ornate treasure chest packed with nostalgia and adrenaline. The retro graphics hit just the right nostalgia spot and the soundtrack had me bobbing my head while dodging bullets and explosions. Basically, based on how it was all shaking out, I went from the absolute edge of my seat, with intense matches, often culminating in a laugh out loud moment when a dynamite box I didn’t expect made short work of my ambitions.
Pros: The variety of weapons adds a strategic layer to the simple brawls, ensuring each play feels different. And no experience rivals the joy (and the hilarious frustration) of working together with a friend in cooperative mode — you haven’t really bonded until you’ve tag-teamed in a digital arena.
Pros: The single-player mode is an absolute blast, though I do wish for a little more depth in the solo campaign. The game is at its best in multiplayer, so solo players may feel a bit neglected. And the controls could be smoother; they sometimes feel clunky, which definitely ups the challenge of the game, but can also result in a few hair-pulling moments.
In short, the game isn’t complex enough to win any awards and it’s probably best to play it with a sense of humor and during a fun game night with friends. It’s a sort of digital king of the hill, but with more explosions and uppercuts.
