Fun with a Side of Challenge in Transmorpher

3.7
Recently, I was fortunate enough to try out Transmorpher, a puzzle-platformer that puts a spin on both the genre and the puzzle genre. Your character is called Glob and he’s losen in space — your task (of course) is to help Glob escape his possible doom by reaching the exit of each level. What makes this game different from the others is the ability to transmorph into all sorts of aliens, each of which has their own special ability that you will need to clever to solve puzzles and progress. The system encourages a little experimentation which is gratifying when you solve for the right door-opening combination of transformations. I do like that this game scales difficulty slowly so it is an excellent choice for players looking to get into a more complex game without being overwhelmed. The responses from fellow gamers are just as passionate as mine; for many, level 26 seems especially amusing, which shows that your game won't lose its sense of humor as you work your way through brain-breaking puzzles. The graphics aren’t groundbreaking, but they absolutely do the job, building a colorful, (kind of) sci-fi fantasy that fits the gameplay.

But it’s not perfect. For some, the controls can be a little sluggish at times, which does lead to some frustration at times, particularly on levels that require precision manoeuvres. The game also needs a more complex story to create more emotional connections to Glob’s journey.

All in all, Transmorpher is an interesting game that manages to find a nice balance between enjoyable platforming and clever puzzles. It certainly won't break the meta but should scratch that casual gaming itch for a few hours...
